Plastic Surgery Pre-op Considerations
In preparation for any plastic surgery in Costa Rica (reconstructive surgery or cosmetic surgery), please complete the following medical tests:
Medical Tests:
- EKG
- Blood Work which includes:
- Hemogram (CBC)
- Bleeding Studies (PT-PTT)
- Blood urea and creatine
- Glucose
- H.I.V
All patients must submit the results of their respective preoperative tests during consultation with the Doctor. If you are healthy and do not suffer from any serious ailment or disorder, you can have your tests done in Costa Rica. Otherwise, you must bring them together with your medical history reports. The Doctor will decide whether it is necessary to take the tests again in Costa Rica or not.
- Mamogram
Patients who wish to have any type of breast surgery must have their mammogram exam performed. The results must be sent to us in order to avoid setbacks or delays and to verify that the procedure to perform is not
Other Advice:
Discontinue taking medications that contain aspirin products (such as Alka Seltzer) or other medications that produce blood thinning (Heparin, Motrin, Ibuprofen) for at least two weeks before and three weeks after surgery. Avoiding these medications reduces the risk of Hematoma (blood collection under the skin) and Seroma (collection of serum) skin slough (partial damage, spots of dead skin).
Walk every day for 30 minutes; exercise can help your physical condition.
Take Arnica tablets. Arnica is a homeopathic remedy that helps reduce bruising and swelling. You can find these tablets at any health store. Start one week prior to your surgery and take 2 tablets three times daily between meals. After your surgery continue to take 2 tablets three times daily for two weeks.
Diet: Salad, fresh fruit, vegetables and white meat.
